H.E.R.S. Ratings

The Home Energy Rating System (H.E.R.S.) Index is the national standard used to measure the energy efficiency of your home. Certified HERS rated homes are proven to have lower energy costs and higher appraisal values.

We have trained and employed certified HERS raters for over a decade which is why so many architects, engineers, expediters, and homeowners choose Radiant Drywall & Insulation to get the job done right.

The Home Energy Rating Process

Radiant Drywall & Insulation adheres to the standards set by the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) so that every home we rate is in full compliance with their energy efficiency requirements. A Certified HERS Rater will work with you every step of the way to ensure the assessment is completed properly and efficiently.

From the initial blueprint to the finalized construction of a home, we perform a series of inspections to ensure that each part of the process goes smoothly.

Projected Rating

Before an ounce of concrete is poured into a house’s foundation, our Certified HERS Rater will assess the architectural plans in order to calculate a projected HERS Index score. This projected rating will be referred to throughout the entire project to prevent any missteps resulting in wasted time and energy. At Radiant Drywall & Insulation, our goal is to ensure the energy efficiency of your home in a time efficient manner.

Foundation

Our certified HERS Rater will begin the onsite inspection process as soon as the foundation of a house is laid down. Home foundations are known to be problem areas for potential air leaks. An uneven foundation can lead to air leakage further into the building process; if the top of the foundation isn’t flush with its surrounding components, there is a greater risk for drafts which will decrease overall energy efficiency of the home.

Framing & Air Sealing

When building a home, the framing process is crucial in fortifying the structure’s overall stability and minimizing the potential for thermal bridging/heat transfer. Once the house’s framing is completed, we inspect it to verify that all construction components are properly air sealed and up to code. The insulation system can protect the interior against cold and hot temperatures, but air sealing insures it’s also protected from wind.

Insulation System

The insulation system helps prevent the flow of heat through a surface such as a ceiling or wall. An effective insulation system increases the energy efficiency of your home’s heating and cooling systems. Our certified HERS Rater will verify the insulation is properly cropped around boxes, wires, pipes, and any other items it touches. We also make sure that all insulation materials are neatly fitted within wall cavities.

Duct System

Properly installed duct systems aid in the distribution of clean/conditioned air throughout your home. Leaky ducts can potentially decrease the efficiency of your home’s cooling and heating systems by up to 20%. Our certified energy rater will carefully inspect the entirety of the duct system and report any weak points where air can escape.

Final Inspection & Diagnostics

We complete the most substantial part of our inspection process once construction is finished, and the house is almost ready to truly become a home. Meticulously going over every piece of the house, Radiant Drywall & Insulation verifies that each construction component has an energy efficiency rating equal or greater to the projected ratings we calculated in the first step of the inspection process.

The Radiant Difference

The time it takes to plan and build an energy efficient home is dependent upon a variety of factors. At Radiant Drywall & Insulation, our certified HERS rater generates each report in a timely manner in order to keep the entire project flowing smoothly. We also maintain an open line of communication with all members involved in the construction process to keep everyone on the same page.

Our professionalism, attention to detail, and time efficient methods all help to make the H.E.R.S. rating process as seamless as possible.
