The Advantages of Drywall

Almost all modern homes have walls predominantly constructed of drywall. Drywall is extremely durable, affordable, and easy to embellish with paint, tiles, wallpaper, or other custom finishing options. At Radiant Drywall & Insulation, our experts have been installing drywall for over 55 years, serving customers throughout the greater New York area.

Quick Installation & Finishing Process

Compared to plaster and other finishing materials, drywall requires much less time to successfully install. For most projects, Radiant Drywall & Insulation implements a time tested three-coat drywall finishing process.

Tape Coat

Applying drywall tape, we go over the drywall to ensure the entirety of it is covered, including the hard-to-reach places such as the seams and the inside and outside corners.

Second/Fill Coat

After the tape coat has fully adhered to the drywall, we smooth over it using spackle, also known as joint compound. Once the second coat dries overnight, the drywall is ready for the application of the final layer.

Finish/Polish Coat

Since this is usually the last step prior to priming the drywall for painting, applying the final coat properly is crucial. Like the second coat, the finishing coat is comprised of spackle. This layer needs to be thinner and finer than the others, so we mix water in with the spackle prior to application.

Drywall Is Fire Resistant

All of the drywall we use is American-made and comprised of noncombustible gypsum. This trusted drywall material’s fire-resistant properties help mitigate interior damage in the event of a fire. To further protect your home against fires, Radiant Drywall & Insulation also offers fire caulking application services. This effective fireblocking technique helps seal off gaps within construction cavities, restricting a fire’s abilities to expand and spread.

Helps Prevent Mold

For areas like bathrooms and basements that are more prone to water damage, we can install mold-resistant sheetrock. This specialty drywall is also moisture-resistant and effectively protects your home from mold and mildew buildup. Mold-resistant sheetrock is a smart long-term investment, potentially saving you thousands of dollars in mold related damage costs down the road. And don’t forget the added health benefits provided by a mold-free living space.

Low Maintenance

What happens if your drywall unexpectedly gets damaged? Fortunately, the drywall repair process is simple, effective, and easy on your wallet. After carefully sanding and cleaning the damaged area, our drywall experts will apply a drywall patch, smoothing it over using high-grade joint compound. We then apply a second coat and sand it to ensure an even blend with the unaffected area. As joint compound takes around 24 hours to dry, the entire repair process can take as little as a couple of days.
