Is Batt Insulation the Right Choice for Your Home?

When deciding on the best way to effectively insulate your home, you want to choose an insulation solution that cuts costs on your energy bills while providing you with maximum comfort. Batt fiberglass insulation accomplishes both and is ideal for almost all residential applications.

Batt Fiberglass Insulation R-Values

Before we discuss the advantages of batt fiberglass insulation, it is important to know what an R-Value is. An R-Value is a rating score based on an insulation material’s capability to prevent the transfer of heat. The higher the R-Value, the more thermally resistant the insulation is. And with batt fiberglass insulation, the thickness and density play a significant role in determining the R-Value. At Radiant Drywall & Insulation, we always use batt insulation with the specific R-Value that effectively insulates each area it is being installed within. While areas of the home such as crawlspaces and attics require higher R-Value insulation at levels between 25 and 38, most exterior walls and interior metal framed only need insulation with an R-Value between 11 and 21 to effectively prevent the transfer of heat.

Thickness (Inches) R-Value Effectively Insulates
3 1/2 11 Interior metal framed walls
3 5/8 13 Exterior walls
3 1/2 (high density) 15 Exterior walls
6 to 6 1/4 19 Exterior walls
5 1/4 (high density) 21 Exterior walls
8 to 8 1/2 25 Floors & crawlspaces
8 (high density) 30 Floors & crawlspaces
9 1/2 (standard) 30 Floors & crawlspaces
12 38 Floors, crawlspaces & attics

The Benefits of Batt Fiberglass Insulation

Because batt fiberglass insulation does not absorb water, it may help prevent against the buildup of mold and/or moisture within your home. At Radiant Drywall & Insulation, we take every precaution to ensure your fiberglass insulation is not exposed to any water during the installation process, helping it to retain its full R-Value.

Fire Resistant

Batt fiberglass insulation’s noncombustible properties provide protection against a house fire spreading further and destroying more than it could have if different materials were used. At Radiant Drywall & Insulation, our team also includes fireblocking experts who can further protect your home from fire damage by professionally applying fire caulking to gaps within the building’s construction.
