Solving Blower Door Issues With Sill Sealer

With energy codes changing in Zone 4 (New York and surrounding areas) from 5 Air Changes Per Hour (ACH) to 3 ACH, it has been difficult for many to successfully adhere to these new guidelines. Some residential jurisdictions have even went from no ACH requirements, to necessitating 3 ACH. ACH is determined by a blower door test.

Blower Door Tests

Professional energy auditors use blower door tests to help determine a home’s airtightness.

These are some reasons for establishing the proper building tightness:

  • Reducing energy consumption due to air leakage
  • Avoiding moisture condensation problems
  • Avoiding uncomfortable drafts caused by cold air leaking in from the outdoors
  • Determining how much mechanical ventilation might be needed to provide acceptable indoor air quality.

Effectively Blocking Air Leakage

At Radiant Drywall & Insulation,  our experts apply sill sealer at the upper areas of plates of interior and exterior walls in order to combat air infiltration, effectively sealing your home by preventing hot or cold air from a baffled attic assembly infiltrating through the walls ascending to your attic. We can achieve the same air sealing effectiveness on your home’s foundation. This is crucially important in areas where drywall must be held away from the top plates in order to prevent further air leakage. Contact us today for a free evaluation!
